Kayaking in Amsterdam - Day Tour

Kayaking in Amsterdam – Day Tour

Kayaking in Amsterdam is one of the most popular outbound sports. You will be taken through the most popular canals where you can enjoy both, ride and view.

What is kayaking?

Kayaking dates from thousands of years ago and were firstly built and used by what we call today Eskimos. They have been using driftwood or the remaining skeleton of whales to construct the structure of the kayak, and seal skin to cover the body. The name is literally translated as hunter’s boat and its main purpose was for hunting and fishing. With time, kayaking has been developing, and in 1936 was introduced as an olympic game for the Berlin Olympic Games.

Nowadays, people use it as a mean for doing sports, recreation or entertainment.

Anyhow, not all waters are suitable for this activity, as the water level can be tricky sometimes. The best places for this activity are canals, lakes and rivers.

Why is kayaking in Amsterdam good??

What better place than Amsterdam? The city has over 100km of canals. These are widely known as grachten, and the canal ring was named on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010. Not to mention that Amsterdam has over 1,500 bridges and over 90 islands, which creates a beautiful and peaceful image for the city. For this reason, Amsterdam is also nicknamed Venice of the North.

Kayaking here is also perfect because of the wide range of water routes. You can leave the city behind and take the route straight into mother-nature. The small villages near Amsterdam are a perfect area for recreation and sharing moments with your family or friends.
